Aromatherapy health is certainly far from a new concept, but it has gained in popularity over more recent years because of media. It is also a pleasanter way of keeping healthy than perhaps taking pills all the time. That is not to say there isn’t a place for conventional approaches to health, there certainly is. How aromatherapy health works is by using essential oils in such a way that the scents have a positive influence on particular areas of the brain to produce a desired effect. Essential oils can be infused into the air, wafted under the nose, used in a massage or added to your bath. To avoid irritation, it is imperative to know that you need ‘carrier’ oils to dilute aromatherapy essential oils before using directly on the skin. Although the oils can be used undiluted if you intend inhaling through the air.
Most of the popular oils used in aromatherapy products are easy to find in the shops or on the Internet. For example, lavender is quite well known to have a calming effect and to help induce sleep in adults and children. There is also some evidence it can help with seasonal affective disorder and reduce anxiety levels. Jasmine has been used as an aphrodisiac and will calm the senses and relax the muscles. So, burn a candle in your home and who knows what the outcome may be! Peppermint will help clear out the sinuses and soothe the stomach and lemon will basically help make you feel happier!
If you are pregnant, some suggest you should at least avoid basil, fennel and aniseed. There is no evidence that when used externally you will do any harm to your baby and of course, we use them in cooking all the time, but it has to be noted that the suggestion has been made. It would be prudent however, to check with a specialist before using if you are pregnant or have any serious medical condition.
Aromatherapy health products are a good and natural way to help improve your cognitive awareness, reduce tension and make you feel much better about yourself.
